Why Summaries? |

|
I have a friend who is a voracious reader. He is reported to read nearly a book a day. When asked “why?” he explains his motivation: “the authors have spent themselves in the creation of their work. In a matter of hours I can glean from them the fruit of their labor, which took months, years, and in some cases even a lifetime.” A good book is to be treasured. It is a beneficial habit and discipline to engage in the reading of books to sharpen the mind and to learn, and in so doing to appreciate more the amazing God that we serve. We agree with Os Guinness that it is sin to not love God with our entire mind. Our desire is to encourage Christians to read books, to think, and to love God with their entire mind. J. Oswald Sanders once stated the we “should read to have fellowship with great minds. Through books we hold communion with the greatest spiritual leaders of the ages.” I hope to bring to our readers not only summaries of contemporary authors, but also noteworthy titles from great Christian thinkers from history; to introduce our readers to this “fellowship” and “communion” with great minds. We would all agree that a well-written book can have a tremendous impact upon the direction of our lives. Most of us would also agree that we often struggle to wedge in time for reading as many books as we would like into our busy hectic schedules. Through the provision of these summaries, it is my hope that Christian Book Summaries can be of service to our readers in a multi-faceted manner: to provide awareness of noteworthy books and their essential message; to bring an awareness of a given author’s “thinking style”; to flat out encourage more mindful rigor within the Christian community; to bring to the world-wide Christian community the fruits of thinking Christians (there aren’t many Christian book stores in China, Africa, Asia or Europe). Thank you for your support and readership. Let me know what you think of Christian Book Summaries. Please feel free to send an email to me at the following address: publisher@christianbooksummaries.com With my best regards and my prayerful hope that you will be encouraged in your pursuit of loving God with all of your mind (and heart, soul and strength).
